Elderly are more susceptible to (infectious) diseases such as urinary tract- and respiratory tract infections. The common treatment for these infections are antibiotics, however, they have many negative side-effects such as antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (AAD). Anneliet Bannier, of Winclove Probiotics, investigated what scientific evidence exists for the efficacy and safety of probiotics in preventing or alleviating AAD.
